Something seriously happens when you become a parent – your perspective shifts, your eyes are opened, your brain gets thinking, and you find solutions to problems you never thought you’d have. And sometimes those thoughts turn into businesses! Take my friend, Heidi, a mom of one beautiful and funny girl. She sews super cute bibs over at Dear Ena Handmade and I think you should check them out!
Have I mentioned they’re super cute? The prints are so different from what’s our there in retail stores, and they’re much thicker and more absorbent, too. Heidi draws her own sewing patterns as well, so these are 100% original designs. Personally, I love how the bibs reach up to Lily’s neck and chin because it actually catches the drool and doesn’t let it sit on her skin too long. As you may know, she’s got eczema on her face and her drool triggers it pretty badly, so keeping her face free of moisture is incredibly important!
I also got to pick Heidi’s brain a little bit and find out more about her products!
What made you decide to start making bibs?
Before Ena was born, I wanted something different that’s a one of a kind style for my baby girl. Then at 6 months old, I wanted something bigger and waterproof but not with the plastic feeling, and of course must be cute and different.
How long have you been doing it?
Almost 4 years.
What kind of fabric do you use?
High quality fabric — cotton and japanese double guaze. Organic cotton. Soft, durable and breathable for babies and kids with sensitive skin.
Do you do custom orders?
How do I wash the bibs?
Parents lack time, so I always prewash and dry my products first to ensure they won’t shrink, and I make sure all products can be machine washed and dried.
How long is the turnaround time?
Usually 2-3 weeks.
What makes your bibs unique?
They are limited edition and unique styles that are different than the store machine made bids. They can be customized by the need of the baby. Not one for all, it is made FOR YOUR baby.
What if I have a question about exchanges or refunds?
Since they are custom made, I ensure detailed communication are made with mutual agreement and of course since it is not machine made, they are made by human touch so it will not be perfect (100% straight line). So no refund or exchange is accepted unless it is something I made incorrectly, ie: wrong size or wrong type of fabric.
What payment types do you accept?
Credit card, eTransfer, or cash for local pick-up.
There you have it! I got a few different types of bibs: the Large Classic, the Bandana, and the Flower Round. My personal favourite is the Flower Round because she gets coverage whichever way she’s facing. 😀
As well, in trying to avoid eczema flare-ups, I try to stick to all cotton fabric for Lily and both sides of this bib is 100% cotton! Since Heidi makes these to your liking, just ask her for cotton on both sides if you’re also battling eczema or sensitive skin on your baby!
Lastly, I just can’t emphasize this enough… these prints are just so flippin’ cute!
